The nappy can be adjusted to make it small enough to fit a tiny baby and then it can be let out to fit an older child. There are a number of ways that this can be achieved, but one of the most popular is rise snaps. These are the snaps that you can see on the front of this type of nappy. The idea is that by snapping them closed, it reduces the rise of the nappy. The rise is the distance from the front waistband to the rear, passing between the legs. This does make a much smaller nappy or outer, but as it can sometimes still be bulky across the back, our dinky nappies also feature snaps at the rear
