Reusable maternity pads

Image
Reusable maternity pads might not be the first thing that occurs to you when thinking about what you will need after giving birth. Cloth pads are a great choice. Disposable pads can be very uncomfortable. Washable pads are a great alternative for postpartum bleeding. Why choose reusable maternity pads Cloth pads are more comfortable than disposable ones. They are more breathable, meaning that you have chance to heal better. As they can washed and reused which is better for the environment and your wallet. Washable pads tend to stay in place better and don’t slip around. They are actually less bulky than the disposable type of pads. Wearing disposable pads can cause a type of ‘nappy rash,’ cloth pads are less likely to do this. You can save them and then use for night times when your period returns or for after the birth of your next baby. Choosing the right pads For the first few days after giving birth, you will want a large pad. The bleeding will be at the heaviest at this point and

Choosing a nappy for swimming

Image
When it comes to choosing a nappy for swimming, there are quite a few choices out there. Going swimming with your baby can be great fun. On a warm sunny day, getting a bucket of water out for them to play in is lovely. But what’s the best option for your babies nappy? Swim nappy options When your little one is in or around water, a normal nappy is not a good option. Anything that soaks up water is going to quickly get soggy and fill up with water from the pool or sea. The last thing that you want is your little one getting weighed down by all of that water. If you are at home, you might want to go without a nappy. Many pools though, request that a swim nappy is worn until your little one is toilet trained. There are some disposable swim nappies on the market. I found that these tended to not fit very well. I don’t think that they would have held in many solid ‘accidents’ that may have happened. If you prefer to choose a reusable nappy for swimming, then you have a few options to choose

Using washable wipes

Image
Are you planning on using washable wipes? What do you need to think about before you decide to use them? Why use cloth wipes? If you’re already using cloth nappies, then going for a reusable wipe is a great idea. Not only are you avoiding chemicals, but you are also cutting down on waste. Washable wipes are cheaper, healthier and simple to use. When you’re already washing nappies, popping a couple of wipes into the machine with the load doesn’t make any difference. Many babies react to the chemicals in disposable wipes, so using a reusable wipe means that you’ll avoid these problems. Using washable wipes A little bit of water is more than enough to use with washable wipes. If you want to keep wipes ready for use, you can store them in a lidded plastic box. Some people like to add a few drops of essential oil to the water for wipes. Change the water that your wipes are in every two to three days. Wash the wipes along with your cloth nappies You will probably only need around two wipes f

Do babies need shampoo?

Image
Shop now If you look in a supermarket or baby shop, you will see a huge range of baby toiletries. Are they really necessary? Do babies need shampoo? Can you manage without soap? Does not using baby bubble bath matter? Avoiding soap Television adverts, magazines and even our own childhood might make us think that we have to use soaps and lotions on our babies. But is this true? Baby bath and powder might smell lovely, but it can’t really beat the natural smell of a newborn baby. Babies don’t usually get dirty, or at least not enough to need washing with soap. After all they aren’t doing manual work. They tend not to play in dirt or sand until older. The only mess that they come into contact comes from their nappies or if they spit up their feed. Water on its own is usually more than enough to deal with this. Soap and other toiletries can actually damage delicate skin. Many children who suffer with eczema and other skin complaints find that the condition is made worse by using soaps and
