Using cloth nappies at daycare

When it comes to going back to work, many parents worry that they will need to switch to disposables while their little one is away from them. But using cloth nappies at daycare, or while being looked after by a family member needn’t be difficult. There’s no need to stop using cloth.

Our tips for using cloth nappies at daycare

  • Stick to one type; having different varieties makes things too confusing.
  • Keep it simple; too many snaps and fastenings can be awkward.
  • Send more than you think they’ll need.
  • If you’re pad folding, have the nappies ready folded.
  • Go through the nappies that you use and how they work with your child’s main caregiver.
  • Have a named wetbag or bucket to collect dirty nappies in.
  • Provide all of the things that they will need; covers, wipes, inserts.
  • We can provide an extra instruction leaflet for your daycare on request.
  • Speak to the day care about cloth nappies that they have used on other children so that you know how much experience they already have.
  • Explain that only the insert needs changing each time with Ecobots.
  • If more than one child is using similar nappies, than a mark with a coloured permanent marker in the corner, or a coloured thread sewn into the edge can help identify your nappies.
  • Sized nappies are easier to fit right, as they will not have to contend with getting the snap setting right.
  • Flushable liners can make change time easier, but check that your day care is happy to use them.
  • Find a daycare that is cloth friendly; many are happy to use cloth nappies and will be already using them on some of the other children.
  • Have extra inserts, just in case. Then you don’t have to worry if you forget to collect spare ones from daycare before the weekend.

Ecobots are a great choice for daycare nappies as they are simple to use and all look the same. The sized covers mean that there are no complicated snap arrangements for carers to get their heads around. Once most people have seen them in action once, they find them very easy to change and put on.
