The life of a pretty nappy
The great things about cloth nappies, particularly if it is a pretty nappy, is that they can go on many bottoms, be owned by many people and be loved by many different people. If you’ve ever browsed the buy and sell pages on facebook or trademe, then you might have seen lots of one of a kind nappies for sale. Why buys them? What happens to them, what happens in the life of a pretty nappy?
Creating a pretty nappy
These days, I don’t very often get the chance to get all creative and make something special and one of a kind. But in the past I’ve made quite a few of these one off nappies. A pretty nappy is usually so called, as it has something about it that makes it a bit different and more attractive than your run of the mill, every day nappies, which are usually known as work horse nappies.
A couple of years ago, I made the snowman nappy that you can see above. After it had been sold and found it’s way to it’s new owner, I thought no more about it, until a couple of months ago when a photo of it being worn popped up in a facebook group that I’m part of. A couple of people commented on the photo that they had owned the nappy in the past, which got me wondering about the life of a pretty nappy.
Different owners
Although it’s only a couple of years since I first sold the snowman nappy, it seems that it’s already had three owners. The first owner bought it new from me and then when they were finished using it, sold it on to new owners.
It’s now owned by it’s third family, I asked for photos on facebook and both the second and current owners very kindly shared some photos of it in use.
Pre-loved nappies
There is quite a big market for pre-loved cloth nappies, particularly those that are a bit different, or are a pretty nappy. It does come and go over time, but seeing a nappy go to different owners and through different hands just shows that there really is a market for them. As a maker of cloth nappies, it’s lovely to see that they have been loved and passed on to other families who love them too.
If you’ve ever owned one of our nappies, either a one of a kind creation, or one of our other cloth nappies, then I’d love to see pictures and hear how it is doing these days. Feel free to email them to me, or to post them on our facebook page.
