The life of a pretty nappy

Image
The great things about cloth nappies, particularly if it is a pretty nappy, is that they can go on many bottoms, be owned by many people and be loved by many different people. If you’ve ever browsed the buy and sell pages on facebook or trademe, then you might have seen lots of one of a kind nappies for sale. Why buys them? What happens to them, what happens in the life of a pretty nappy? Creating a pretty nappy These days, I don’t very often get the chance to get all creative and make something special and one of a kind. But in the past I’ve made quite a few of these one off nappies. A pretty nappy is usually so called, as it has something about it that makes it a bit different and more attractive than your run of the mill, every day nappies, which are usually known as work horse nappies. A couple of years ago, I made the snowman nappy that you can see above. After it had been sold and found it’s way to it’s new owner, I thought no more about it, until a couple of months ago when a ph

Old fashioned cloth nappies

Every time I’ve done a market or baby show, I always get some older women coming up to me to talk about our cloth nappies. Sometimes they just want to see how they’ve changed from the ones that they used to use, sometimes they are surprised that people still use cloth nappies, but nearly every single one of them talks about how great their old fashioned cloth nappies were, and how you can’t get them any more. Old fashioned cloth nappies weren’t made of modern fabrics, they weren’t shaped, they weren’t made in a range of bright colours and prints. Made just of cotton and in flat squares that had to be folded and then pinned, before being covered with a separate cover. But, they

Something that I get asked a lot by parents to be, is how many newborn nappies do I need? Knowing how many nappies you will need for those early days is sometimes difficult to decide. Here’s our quick guide to working out how many nappies you will need. How many newborn nappies do I need? To work out how many nappies you might need, you might want to think about the following: How often are you planning to wash? You will probably need around 6-10 nappies a day: If you are washing every other day then you will need at least 12 newborn nappies. If you wash every day then you will need 6-8 nappies. What time of year is it? If it’s winter, then you might find that it takes longer for them to dry. Think about the type of drying you can do. If it’s going to take a while to get them dry, then you might need 6 or so more that you’d other wise need. Are you using just in the day time? If you aren’t using them at night, then you will probably need one or two less nappies than full time use. Are
