Baby brain strikes again

Baby brain strikes again; now, where did I put that whatsit?  It’s a sad fact, but even two years after having my last baby, I still seem to be suffering from major ‘baby brain’ and I suspect that by the time I’m finally over it, I’ll have just progressed into a senior moment.  I might have always been like this….. of course I can’t remember.

What was I doing?

I’m sure parents every where know that all to common feeling of forgetfulness that seems to come after having babies.  I’m not sure if it’s caused by hormones, lack of sleep, the pressure of caring for a newborn or a combination of all of the above, but there’s certainly a level of absent mindedness that descends after you conceive your first child.  Baby brain, or nappy brain as it’s sometimes known, seems to have the power to turn the most of sorted, capable and together woman, into an absent minded day dream.

Baby brain strikes again

Sometimes it’s the little things that seem to come off worst, most evenings my husband and I have a conversation that goes a bit like this:

Me: Do you want a cup of tea?

Him: Yes please?

Five minutes or so passes

Me: Did you say you wanted a cup of tea?

Him: Yes

Midway through making said hot beverage

Me: Was it tea or coffee you said you wanted?

HIm: Big sigh followed by tea please.

I suspect that I also say thingy, whatsit and other such descriptive words quite a lot.  Just yesterday my four year old asked where her thing-a-ma-pop was, I can’t imagine where she’d got that from…….

The cause of baby brain

The early days

I may still be suffering with a little bit of baby brain, but it’s the early days that are by far and away the worst for it.  I remember turning the house upside down, when my oldest son was only a few weeks old, trying to find my keys.  I was desperate to get out for a walk, but just couldn’t find them.  Turns out they were in my pocket all along.  There are hundreds of other similar things that I’ve done, and I’m almost sure I can’t have always been this scatterbrained.  It’s gradually getting better now the children are getting older, and I’m getting more sleep, which is good, because I’m not sure I can really blame it on baby brain any more.

Where are my keys?
Lost your keys again Mum?

I’d love to hear the crazy things that you’ve done or forgotten and blamed on baby brain.  Feel free to share them below.
