How to use washable baby wipes

Washable baby wipes are simply squares of cloth, similar to face cloths or flannels that you use to wipe you little ones bottom at change time.  You simply wet the cloth and then use it to wipe, they are also ideal for wiping sticky hands and faces.  There are a number of different recipe’s that you can use on your reusable baby wipes, but plain water works fine, simply wet as needed, or keep a small stash wet in a plastic container ready for use.  Change the water regularly to avoid smells or the water ‘going off.’ Once you have used the cloth baby wipe, simply wash with your cloth nappies and then reuse on the next occasion.

Reusable baby wipe recipes

Although the reusable baby wipes work fine with just water, here are a few recipes that you can mix for your wipes, either soak a small amount of wipes in the liquid ready for use, or keep some in a spray bottle to apply when needed.

• A few drops of tea tree oil in water
• Cooled camomile tea (this is particularly soothing for a rashy bottom)
• A tiny amount of natural baby bath and baby oil in water
• Cooled red bush tea (again good for rashes)

A little research on the internet will also throw up a number of other suggestions if you are looking for something a bit different.

The healthier alternative

Because you are able to control exactly what goes onto the reusable baby wipes before you use them, you can be sure that there are no nasty chemicals on the wipes.  Disposable wipes have a huge amount of different products in them, if you look at the back of a pack of wipes you will see a huge list of chemicals that they contain.  All of these are really unnecessary to clean a baby’s bottom, and water will do the job just fine, they do make great stain removers though, a disposable wipe will get ball point out of nearly anything.
