Make cloth nappies more absorbent
Every now and again you may find that you need to make cloth nappies more absorbent. Your child might be weeing more, or perhaps you are in need of a cloth nappy that will last all night long, and therefore needs more absorbency. What options do you have to make cloth nappies more absorbent?
Boosting to make cloth nappies more absorbent
One of the best ways to make cloth nappies more absorbent is to add extra padding, or a booster to them. This means that you can continue to use the same cloth nappies as you are currently using, just with the addition of boosters. Boosters are generally sewn pads of fabric, that sit in the centre of the nappy. In the case of prefolds, you would normally place the booster, which is also sometimes called a doubler in the centre of the nappy, and then fold the nappy around it.
Cotton Doublers
One of the best types of booster to use is a cotton booster or doubler. Our organic cotton boosters are ideal for increasing the absorbency of your ecobots nappies. They come in two sizes, small and large, depending on the size of your baby and the prefold nappies that you are using (small for prem and infant prefolds, large for regular and super prefolds). They are also rectangular, which means they need no further folding to fit into your nappies.
Microfibre boosters
Microfibre is another good option to consider when selecting a booster in order to make cloth nappies more absorbent. It is highly absorbent, fast drying, and works best when used in conjunction with a natural fibre such as our cotton or bamboo nappies. The only thing that you do need to beware of when using microfibre is that it should not sit directly against your little ones skin. (It is so absorbent that it can draw moisture out of their skin, causing microfibre burns.) Used inside the nappies it does not cause these problems.
A more absorbent nappy
If your nappies are no longer coping with the amount of wee that your baby is producing, then rather than boosting the nappy, you may want to consider going up to the next size, or trying a different fabric. Our super nappies are great for night time, or heavy wetting babies, as they have more layers of absorbency than our regular nappies.
Bamboo prefolds also tend to absorb more liquid than cotton prefolds, so when trying to make cloth nappies more absorbent it might be worth trying a different nappy instead. Smaller prefolds, such as our prem or infant sized nappies can be used as booster in larger nappies as your baby gets older.
If you have a heavy wetter, or need to make cloth nappies more absorbent, then there are quite a few things that you can do. I hope that this article has helped, but if you need any further info or tips, tips them please let me know.
