A personal top ten
I struggle with posts like this; my ten favourite pieces of music, a personal top ten if you like. The problem I have is narrowing it down to just ten, you can guarantee that whatever I come up with today as my personal top ten, will not be my personal top ten tomorrow. Any way, enough of the moaning, here goes.
My personal top ten count down:
In at ten
Adagio for strings; Samuel Barber. I know that this is one that a lot of people would list, but it really is lovely. There is a lot of classical music I love, (random fact, I used to play the flute) but this is an all time favourite piece. At university this was one of my relaxation tracks while revising.
Last weeks six, this weeks number nine
Under the bridge; the red hot chilli peppers. This is a lovely track, when not being sung by girl bands. It also reminds me of a very specific time in my teenage years.
This weeks number eight, a non mover with
Crashin’ in, the Charlatans. Actually, this probably isn’t my favourite Charlatan’s track, but it’s the one that always gets stuck in my head. I always used to type the first line when I was learning to touch type, so it has to be this track in this list.
Up two from last week, this weeks number seven
The who; Baba O’Reily. This was another one where I struggled to narrow it down to one track, my choice today would be Baba O’Reily though.
A new entry at number six
Creep; radiohead. Like a lot of these tracks, another group I loved in my teenage years, a great track.
In at five
Pink floyd, comfortably numb. I didn’t like Pink Floyd when I was younger, at all. I do now though, a lot.
Down two at four
The boy with the arab strap; Belle and Sebastian. I love Belle and Sebastian, and struggled to narrow down which track to go for, but this has long been a favourite. I pretty much wore out my tapes of the boy with the arab strap and if you’re feeling sinister when I was at university.
A new entry at number three
Don’t look back in anger; Oasis. I’m not sure that this quite deserves to make it to number three, but it’s another track from my ‘youth’ so we’ll let it sneak in there.
A non-mover for number two with
Waterfall; Stone Roses. In many ways this should be at number one, I love this track. But it can’t, because number one has to be a track by that band instead. Sorry.
And for the 500th week running, this week’s number one is……
Laid; James. I love James, and I have done for well over twenty years (gulp). This is the title track to my favourite album.
So there you have it, my personal top ten music tracks, this week at least. What would yours be?
Oh no, just realised I missed Babies by Pulp, that would have to be number three…..
