Travelling with cloth nappies
When heading off on holiday, it’s sometimes quite difficult to decide whether you should take your cloth nappies with you or not. After all a holiday is a holiday, wouldn’t it just be easier to do without the extra washing for a week or so? There’s no reason that you can’t take cloth though, here is our guide to travelling with cloth nappies.
Packing cloth nappies
One of the downsides to taking cloth away with you, is trying to fit them into your luggage. If you are travelling by aeroplane, then the amount of luggage you can take with you is limited, and even a holiday that you drive to, will limit the amount that you can take. To get around this problem, try to take nappies that are quick drying, an insert that is flat like ecobots is a particularly good idea, as they dry quite quickly. This means that you won’t have to take as many as you might with a nappy that is slow drying. Having a separate cover also means that you only need take three or four, rather than complete pocket or all in one nappies, and so take up less room. If the nappies are quick drying, then you will be able to wash and reuse over a shorter time period, meaning that you need less cloth nappies.
Find out about laundry facilities
When it comes to travelling with cloth nappies, one of the most important things that you are going to have to consider, is the ability to wash them. Find out before hand what washing and drying facilities are available at the place you are staying. Even if you are travelling around and camping, then this doesn’t mean that you can’t use cloth. Make sure that the campsites that you are likely to be staying at, or places that you are passing through have washing facilities that you can make use of.
Advantages of travelling with cloth nappies
There are a number of advantages of travelling with cloth nappies. If you are going to a hot country, then cloth is very probably better for your baby than disposables which won’t breath and may allow them to get too hot. A cloth nappy made of natural fabric, such as cotton, with a breathable nappy cover over the top is much better for their skin, and won’t make them too hot. Something else to bare in mind, is that with disposable nappies, you will need to find somewhere to dispose of them. Rubbish facilities in different countries are not always as easy to access as here in New Zealand, and even here, if you are away from home it may not be straight forward to get rid of them.
Whatever you choose to do, relax and enjoy your holiday.
